Celebrating where we come from and the joy around us, this project is the culmination of a collaboration between Montavilla Jazz, Portland State University’s Artist as Citizen Initiative, and Vestal Elementary.

Tasting notes: positive, buoyant, warm

Mary-Sue Tobin is a full-time professional performer and instructor on saxophones, woodwinds and piano. She performs regularly with the Rebirth of The Cool, The Quadraphonnes, The Paul Brainard Horns, and many other regionally-based ensembles. Mary-Sue has performed with The Oregon Symphony Pops and numerous jazz festivals. She has shared the stage with international jazz and R&B stars such as Dave Douglas, The Temptations, James Moody and Esperanza Spalding. She is the saxophone, clarinet, jazz theory, and piano instructor at Beacock Music in Vancouver, WA and the musical director for Gospel Outreach in Portland, OR. She also gives private lessons from her home. Mary-Sue received her Masters of Music in Saxophone Performance (Classical) in 2005 and a Bachelor of Music (Jazz Studies) from Portland State University in 2003. Mary-Sue also serves as a member of the PDX Jazz Festival Programming Committee and is a Montavilla Jazz Artist In Residence at Vestal Elementary School.
