Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the 12th Annual Montavilla Jazz Festival – August 29th through August 31st! We hope you’ll join us as we highlight the best of Portland jazz!
Volunteers are acknowledged at our Volunteer Appreciation Party. In addition, you’ll be eligible for discounts on select concert tickets. We’ll also provide refreshments to keep you nourished throughout your shift.

Pre-fest Clean Up @ MONTAVILLA PLAZA
Event Details
Help prep and beautify the Montavilla Plaza for the Montavilla Jazz Festival the following weekend! We’ll be doing clean-up from 10am-2pm. Coffee and snacks provided!
We will provide clean-up materials and gear. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, closed-toed shoes, and any sun protection you prefer as we’ll be outside and on our feet the entire time.

Festival Kick-off Night! PJCE feat. Mary Flower: Blues virtuoso Mary Flower meets PJCE’s 12-piece ensemble for a night of musical fusion where fingerstyle roots blossom into jazz band brilliance.
North Pole Studio presents: Rhythm & Hues: A creative collaboration between musicians and visual artists with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), Rhythm & Hues, invites local composers and musicians to respond to artworks by North Pole Studio artists with an original song.

Concert Details
Catherine Lee – Life Work: An Interspecies Collaboration. The wondrous life cycle of the Bombyx Mori, the domestic silkworm moth, illuminated through the oboe d’amore, field recordings, video, photography, and textiles.
Eden Holland’s The World That Ends In Flames. A voyage of original compositions and high-octane improvisations from a groundbreaking band, with live visuals from Agnes Zahina.
Quinn Walker’s bigSMALLband blends the big band jazz sound with modern jazz idioms, featuring horns and jazz vocalist David Barber.
Okzat-Ozkat explores rhythmic, melodic, and textural diversity through improvised pieces for the curious listener.

John C. Savage and Lie Very Still perform Nova Pangaea: Savage’s eco-jazz suite Nova Pangaea is a stunning testament to the beauty of our planet and the urgency of the climate crisis.
James Powers’ New Communion: A new medium-sized ensemble explores Pan-African philosophy as it relates to the creation of music.

Xylyn Hathaway Quintet. This chordless quintet is pushing the outer limits of improvisation—tearing apart original compositions in front of your eyes.
PoiKilo: An alternative jazz group formed by the chaotic minds of Delos Erickson and Nik Barber.
Zyanna Trio: Dance of the Dragonfly: The Zyanna Trio presents originals from their recent release, “Dance of the Dragonfly,” and new works that blend R&B and jazz influences with elements of hip-hop, spoken word, and art rock.
