Festival 22 Rich Halley with Matthew Shipp Trio

$5 – $30Dynamic tenor saxophonist Rich Halley performs in-the-moment improvisations with the New York City-based Matthew Shipp Trio to create a powerful emotional experience.
Rich Halley is a tenor saxophonist/composer based in Oregon. Known for his imaginative compositions and fiery playing, Rich has released 24 critically acclaimed recordings as a leader and has recorded over one hundred original compositions. Halley’s recent release, “The Shape of Things”, was on a number of lists of the best jazz albums of 2020. All About Jazz describes his music as: “Uncluttered, bold and powerful” and Tom Hull calls him “One of the major tenor saxophonists of our time.”
With a unique, instantly recognizable style, pianist Matthew Shipp has been active on the international jazz scene since the late ’80s. His boundary-less musical approach crisscrosses free jazz, elliptical post-bop, and modern classical music. He played in the David S. Ware Quartet during the early ’90s before leading his own dates and recording with many influential musicians including William Parker, Roscoe Mitchell, Ivo Perlman and long time trio mates Michael Bisio and Newman Taylor Baker.
