Veteran drummer and bandleader Ron Steen is one of the Northwest’s top rhythm keepers and leaders. He has performed with an impressive list of jazz artists, including Joe Henderson, Woody Shaw, Dexter Gordon, Eddie Harris, Sonny Stitt, and Charles Lloyd. He is also the “Godfather of Jazz Jams” in Portland, having hosted jam sessions since 1980. Many notable jazz stars who come through town make a point of showing up to play at these. Steen is also a sought-after bandleader and sideman. His peers hold him in high regard for his precision and versatility behind the kit.
